SkyPier Ferry Terminal
Hong Kong International Airport
OTC staff* led the planning and design of the permanent ferry terminal linking HKIA to ports in Macau and the Pearl River Delta. The unique concept provides for direct, bonded transfer between Mainland China and Macau passengers and flights at HKIA, providing “HKIA experience” all the way to the ferry door. The design included a spacious departures lounge overlooking the ferry berths; passenger boarding via enclosed, air-conditioned corridors on pontoons; airline check-in facilities; security screening; innovative baggage handling facilities; an extension of the Terminal 2 Automated People Mover (APM) line, with a direct link to departures gates via East Hall in Terminal 1 and SkyPier origin/destination processing facilities located in Terminal 2 via a 3-platform APM station.
SkyPier was designed to be implemented in 3 phases for an ultimate capacity of 8 berths or 10M pax/year. Safeguards were put in place for a future expansion tower for the new hotel built on an abutting property.
